Jeremy Preston stands down as Director of the Food Advertising Unit

After three and a half years, Jeremy Preston has stepped down from his position as Director of the Food Advertising Unit (FAU).

Preston joined the FAU in July 2003 after spending thirteen years as Managing Director of Cereal Partners UK, the Breakfast Cereal joint venture between Nestlé and General Mills.

Preston has been a key figure in the food and drink advertising debate over the last three years and provided an experienced and sensible voice in an increasingly emotional debate. The FAU has pursued a strong public affairs programme and hosted a number of key parliamentary events under Preston.

Responsibility for the FAU will now revert to The Advertising Association’s Director General, Andrew Brown, and to Sue Eustace, the AA’s Head of UK Public Affairs.

Suzanne Edmond, Public Affairs Manager, will continue to remain the key point of contact for the FAU.

Commenting on his decision, Preston said:

“My goal has always been to ensure that the FAU argues on the basis of sound evidence and not emotion. Only this can bring about effective future policies.”

Andrew Brown, Director General of the Advertising Association said:

“Jeremy has given outstanding service to the business at a very busy and demanding time for which we are very grateful. He recognised that, now the Ofcom consultation has closed, it was an appropriate time to fulfil his wish to stand down”.
